Ww2 Tippco Tin Wind Up Leader Mercedes Car Toy German Soldier Lineol Elastolin

Incomplete very hard to find antique tin wind up toy - great to restore or for parts. I just found this in a old Pennsylvania attic, found with other pre-1950 toys.

I have never found one of these before, its very old and came with the hand painted highly detailed composition soldier pictured, he is a driver, please note that he has damage to his leg and arm and has paint wear, i think he still looks pretty cool driving this car, he is original, but he is in far from mint condition. I think that this was made by Tippco but i cant find a makers mark?

The vehicle itself is made of tin and is in original paint with wear as you can see, it measures approx 9 long. If i thought it was definitely no good i would certainly just say that. I dont know whats missing, obviously the front seat and 2 small fender lights,, not sure what else? All of the little hubcaps are here with the logos, the little door handles are here, both fenders with graphics, i think it also might be missing a hood ornament?

And the grill is slightly bent inward. Front window frame is also bent as you can see, but its here. The photos are clear and can be enlarged for greater detail so please take a look and you would know best.

I improvised the front drivers seat from a styrofoam peanut (not glued) just for the photos , so that i could show this with a driver, but there is no front seat. I have looked and all of the parts necessary to complete this very rare toy are available, a good toy restorer could easily straighten this out if you wanted, but i liked it to look original so i left it alone, it still looks really cool on display.
