A striking and unusual vintage Soviet tin toy automobile, dating approximately to the late 1950s-1960s. In the USSR, toys of this type were often informally associated with prestigious Soviet cars such as the GAZ-21 Volga or GAZ-13 Chaika, but the actual styling of this model is much more futuristic and strongly reflects the American concept-car aesthetic of the 1950s. Its dramatic tail fins, panoramic windshield, long low body, curved roofline and bright chrome-style trim are especially reminiscent of the famous Lincoln Futura and other American dream cars of the Jet Age.
This makes the toy particularly interesting not only as a piece of Soviet toy history, but also as an example of how Western automotive design influenced industrial and toy design behind the Iron Curtain. The car is impressively large, approximately 27-28 cm / 10.5-11 inches long. The body is made primarily of pressed tin/metal with plastic glazing and interior components. The automobile has most likely been professionally repainted/restored in a rich glossy red finish.
The repaint presents extremely well and gives the car a spectacular display appearance. Original metal/chrome-effect trim shows age-related wear, oxidation and scratches. The underside also shows scratches and signs of previous use.
Transparent window parts have some surface wear and age marks. This car goes without friction mechanism and car runs forward fine when pushed. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description. Despite its age and restoration, the car has a wonderful presence and looks fantastic on display. The exaggerated fins, panoramic glass and long streamlined body make it a perfect piece for collectors. A very decorative and increasingly difficult-to-find Soviet toy with a strong 1950s American dream-car aesthetic. Chrome and metal trim show wear, scratches and oxidation.Length: 27-28 cm / 10.5-11 in. Original/Reproduction: Original vintage toy, restored/repainted. Country/Region of Manufacture: Soviet Union.
