Vintage Marx Dick Tracy Windup Tin Police Squad Car NO. 1 ca 1949 - (#900-733). Offered is a 1949 Dick Tracy No. 1 lithograph tin wind-up car officially named the "Dick Tracy Siren Squad Car With Electric Flashing Light". It was manufactured by Louis Marx & Co.

Of New York City, New York. The windup has been tested and it works and the car drives as it was designed. The siren wails when the motor goes. The battery-operated roof light has a detached wire and has not been tested. Any purple tint you may see in the photos is a reflection from the camera. This piece is in mostly original condition with no breaks, restorations, repairs, or touch-ups that we can see. The "stop/go" lever functions as it should. The only mechanical issues to be noted is that the roof mounted light appears to have been glued in place and it has a detached wire.

The wind-up key appears to be a replacement. This car shows the usual patina, scuffs, scratches and wear that is to be expected from age and play. It has three wooden tires and one rubber drive tire that is marked "Louis Marx & Co". The Dick Tracy squad car was produced in several variations over several years. This toy has a dark green lithographed body, a chrome plated headlight, grille, and bumper assembly, and a battery-operated red emergency roof light in a white plastic body.

A brief history of Louis Marx & Company of New York City, New York. Its products were often imprinted with the slogan, One of the many Marx toys, have you all of them? Arguably, Marx was the most well-known toy company through the late mid-20th century.

Best known for their lithographed tin windup toys Marx was also one of the big four among American electric train manufacturers. Interestingly, Marx also successfully revived the Yo-Yo in 1928. This car is about 11" long and 4" wide and about 4 high. It weighs about one pound two ounces. We also accept checks if you can wait the additional time it takes for the check to clear.
