TIN FRICTION OPEN WHEEL RACER RACE CAR DRIVER I. Y. METAL NOMURA OCCUPIED JAPAN

Metal Toys of Occupied Japan. The car measures 8 1/4 inches or 21 centimeters long and it is in complete, fair condition. The racer is not in great shape but this is a case of the toy being more than the sum of its parts. It could be restored and made beautiful but I like it as it is and never made any move to tidy up the paint or chrome.

The one thing that has been touched up is the driver's head; everything else is totally unchanged. The colors are strong but there are scratches, scrapes and some stains in the litho.

The chrome is bright and shiny but there are some spots of corrosion and pitting. The tires are hubcaps are original and in good condition and the friction motor works well.

This is an unusually large race car for an Occupied Japan toy and it lacks the naive quality that make many Occupied Japan toys so charming. Instead, it looks forward to the wonderful decade of tin racers ahead.

It must have been made during the end of the period, which ended in 1952. It will be great to restore or to enjoy just as it is.
