SSS SHIOJI SEARS Tin Battery Op Indy 500 Watson Offy Race Car 14. PLEASE READ COMPLETE DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY AND VIEW. This Indianapolis 500 racer is very clearly patterned after the Watson roadsters that once dominated the infamous Indy " brickyard " race track. The clean example shown here was a special issue made for Sears & Roebuck store, hence no markings. Unfortunately the car has suffered the same malady many battery op toys of the'60s did, having the batteries left in till they ruptured and rusted the battery box and base. It still displays beautifully from the right side and has many good parts if bought as a donor car but it doesn not work. Nicely detailed interior shows a full compliment of gauges in the separate tabbed dash, and a large metal steering wheel that actually steers the front wheels.

Parts that are in excellent condition are the external oil tank, exhaust, roll bar, starter nipple in front grill, rear body protective bar, steering wheel, Schroeder drag link as well as a near perfect windshield, four flawless tires, three excellent wheels and all four original knock off spinners. The electric motor switch seems to function well with no issues but of course can't be tested. Auto jacks are all still in place. Front suspension and steering are all intact and work well. The body has no dents or dings and exhibits a high paint luster.

There is hardly any wear showing other than the corrosion on the left side. Base is heavily rusted and one rear wheel shows corrosion as well. Rear wheels are loose but both axle retainers are in place so maybe just an adjustment is needed. A great vintage race car toy with plenty of salvage parts or displayed the way it is from the right it still looks outstanding.
