Rare early 1900s Ives cast iron floor train circus car with caged elephant. Embossed Greatest Show on Earth on one side and Elephant Car on the other side. The elephant is embossed Baby.
The elephants tail is a separate piece that swivels. One side is hinged at the bottom and opens when the cotter pin at the top is lifted (to release the elephant from its cage). 6.25 long x 4.75 tall x 2.5 wide.
The red train car has paint losses commensurate with age and play. There is a little bit of yellow paint left on the wheels and only a small amount of gold trim left (along the top). Circus life was hard on the poor baby elephant. He lost all of his paint and also lost his trunk somewhere along the line.Like the tail, the trunk would have been a separate piece that swiveled. The elephant also has a small hole on low on his front left leg (strange hole might be a casting flaw). It is the correct Ives cast iron baby elephant for this toy. Original hinges, cotter pin, and coupler all present. Other than the hole in the elephant's leg there are n.
O cracks, breaks, or repairs. The areas of paint loss have a nice smooth oxidized patina (not rough or pitted). Important Please Read - Other Items Listed. Day after the Super Bowl.
