If you are looking for scarce and unusual vintage Mercury Cougar models, youll love this one!! No reserve on this super-scarce, original vintage, big 1/18-scale soft-plastic-bodied 1968 Mercury Cougar DRAG KAT toy model car in bright orange with a white interior with an orange dashboard and steering wheel. Manufactured by Gay Toys of Walled Lake, Michigan. Very hard to find this car in orange; even harder to find one still with its original display-box. And this DRAG KAT (at DRAG CITY) display-box is so 60s and so very cool!!
This Cougar features black plastic front and rear bumpers/grille and shaker hood-insert with two small, round, nickel-sized AUTOLITE Spark Plugs stickers on the shaker hood and on the trunk lid. Both round stickers are still securely affixed to the car, as shown in the photos. The car measures approximately 10 ½-inches-in-length. This Cougar DRAG KAT has b.Een sitting in my smoke-free and, generally, dust-free Model Car collection for many years. Looks super-sharp and super-clean but is not mint as it has some very light edge wear visible on it and there are some hard-to-see light scuffs/scratches on the roof, as you may be able to see in the accompanying photos. That said, this super-clean Cougar is a great-looking model with nothing missing and nothing broken.
The soft plastic car body is nice and straight and there are no cracks or breaks in the plastic. The clear plastic windows are securely in place and are clean and clear with no cracks or breaks. The window posts and the vent posts are nice and straight and arent split or broken. All of the original hard-plastic white wall tires/wheels are in place and all look very good. I have not rolled this Cougar around as it is still securely fitted in the display-box and I dont want to pry the fragile box-ends open any more than I have to.
I opened the box-ends for the first time to take the accompanying photos but I have never removed the car from its display-box. This super-cool DRAG KAT Mercury Cougar display-box is in quite good condition for its age and flimsiness but it is definitely not mint as it shows some obvious edge wear and there are some short creases visible in a few places. There is a short tear at the bottom of the box on the very front on the A in the word SAFE. The end flaps at both ends of the display-base are all intact, though a bit worn, as shown.While this bright orange Cougar model still looks super-sharp and displays great, its the wonderful DRAG KAT display-box that really sets this off; just a terrific vintage 60s toy car package. Makes a very fun addition to any Cougar, Dragster/Funny Car or Model Car collection! Again, this very scarce orange Cougar is not mint, as noted above, but includes the great-looking original display-box. Is now much higher than it has been in the past.
