14 racer made by Nomura of Japan. The racer measures 12 inches or 30 centimeters long and it is in complete condition. I have had this racer for some time now. When I first got it, the left side of the race car was in great shape, but on the right side, there was considerable fading, particularly to the red paint.
I have been gradually restoring it for some time and now it is time to pass it on to another owner. A waterproof permanent ink was used to stabilize the red on the racer; it was put on in layers to give the surface of the tin that glossy shine. The black is just about completely original and there are some small highlights of blue and yellow that were used on the faded side with the same ink technique. The chrome trim, wheels, tires, hubcaps are all original, although the base of the racer has been repainted. The helmet of the driver also has been repainted, everything else about the driver and head is completely original.
So to sum up, the racer is 90 percent original. The black base has been repainted and the red, blue and yellow areas on the right side of the race car have all been restored. Everything else is completely original. The friction motor will work if the wheels are in exactly the right position, if they get even slightly out of place, forget it. These racers were made by several companies, most were made by Yonezawa or Hadson. Racers, made by Nomura, are a little bit harder to find. This car has the correct parts, the correct fin and the correct hood ornament. The racer is pictured on page 205 of the great Big Book of Tin Toy Cars Commercial and Racing Vehicles.
