1938 Marx Charlie McCarthy "in his Benzine Buggy". Wind Up Tin Toy Car. An excellent and great-working wind up tin toy from Marx, with all the colorful lithographed artwork that you would expect from this well-known toy maker. This wonderful depiction of Charlie McCarthy -- a character popularized by ventriloquist Edgar Bergen -- came in three versions. This version has black rear wheels and a red steering wheel, and is moderately rare. The most common has both in black, and the rarest has both in red. Fully functional "mystery action" wind up drive, which sends the toy lurching forward and backward in short swaths. Charlie's head turns steadily in circles (in the same direction). Only very minor wear in the lithography.

A couple of small chips on the hood. The original box is missing the flaps on one end, and has a small hole and sticker residue on one face.

It is otherwise in very good condition, with great display graphics. Approximate size 8" long, 3" wide, and 6-1/2 tall. Don't miss out on this one -- you don't often see them in this kind of condition!
