Very Rare Antique c1890 Ives Dandy Clockwork Tin Toy Train Locomotive & Car

For your consideration is this original antique c1890 Ives Dandy clockwork locomotive and Peerless coach car. The Peerless car is stamped on the bottom with a patent date of February 9, 1883. Both tin pieces feature nice stenciling, especially the sides and top of the Peerless car. Very rare to find any early American toys such as this, and even tougher to find them in this condition. The Peerless car 7.75" long by 4" tall.

Really incredible condition for a handpainted tin toy of this age. Overall I would grade it VG+ with over 95% of paint remaining. Clear stenciling and lettering on each side, and the top features the nice stenciling as well. The wheels and axles are in EX condition, and there are no visible signs of rust. Overall this car is an incredible survivor and a perfect mate to the locomotive. The Dandy is clearly marked on each side as shown. It has a front boiler with bell that hands over the body of the locomotive.

The cattle pusher, lights, and all wheels are present. The clockwork is functional but very sticky and temperamental. Will need some oiling and a little tuneup if you wanted this to run well. The stenciling is present on the top and sides of the cab, but some of the areas have worn and are difficult to see.

The locomotive has paint loss in areas, including some that show the bright tin underneath. The base has clearly visible solder marks by the clockwork engine, so it may have been repaired a long time ago. The thing to note is that these early American toys were often well made but sometimes have crude finishings. The major issue is the side tanks that were by the light are missing, and the arms that would have extended from those to the wheels are gone.

It displays well as is but these are definitely missing on both sides. Overall it grades a G, but again it is near impossible to find a toy of this age and quality in any condition, let alone one that displays this well.

The locomotive measures 8.75" long by over 5" tall. The set when put together measures over 16 long. An incredible find which will make an excellent addition to any advanced collection. Don't miss out on this one. Postal rates continue to rise and first class rates have come up slightly.

Also, I will never lower values on Custom forms, this is against Federal law. Please do not ask to lower values. The item "Very Rare Antique c1890 Ives Dandy Clockwork Tin Toy Train Locomotive & Car" is in sale since Thursday, November 10, 2016.
