Exceedingly Rare 1912 Ely Cycle Co Tin Crank Wind-up Gyro Monorail Car Gyroscope
Up for sale, an exceedingly rare example of a 1912 Ely Cycle Co. Ingenious mechanics inspired by Louis Philip Brennan's real 1910 prototype, allow it to travel balanced on a single rail, and single wheel thanks to its internal gyroscope. Beautiful design and details add to the allure of this historical piece, one of the only two known examples. The rail tracks here provided are not the original but are included. Takes some practice to properly operate it. Needs to be well balanced and set on the track with the engine running, before letting it go. Moderate condition with signs of the times, abrasions and oxidation. See minutia in pictures, as these form part of the description. Feel free to pose any questions you may have.
